Introducing Lance Haney – college community group leader

A roommate tried for a year and a half to get Lance Haney to try church as an adult. An invitation to a cookout is what finally won him over. “There was nothing intimidating about going to a cookout,” Lance said. But that cookout led to friendships and a true desire to attend church. A few months after the initial visit, Lance gave his life to Christ.

photoIn the same way a flower will not grow without sunshine and water, a new Christ follower will struggle to grow without a community. We were never meant to “do life” alone. We need the encouragement and support of individuals walking the same path. Lance found community in a single-adult group, where he could safely ask questions without judgment.

Lance learned what it meant to serve within a church and began working with youth three years after choosing Christ. This environment is where he grew from the man who was hesitant to even try church, into the man that stood on the beach several years later, listening as God called him out of the corporate world and into full-time ministry. As he started his first ministry position, he reconnected with a friend named Carleen. This is where Lance lost his “single adult” status. He has been married to Carleen since 1997.

Lance has filled many roles within the churches he has attended as an adult. But the one he is most excited about is bursting onto the scene at Access Church! Lance has a passion for young, single adults seeking community. He remembers what an incredible experience it was for him to build relationships in a single-adult group. He is excited to bring his knowledge and passion to the college-age individuals at Access because he believes in the mission of Access Church.

Lance has begun hosting a new college-age group at Access called The Living Room. This group will learn together, play together, eat together, and bond with each other through a variety of events, from Bible study to whitewater rafting and everything in between. A great time to jump into The Living Room is at our Lake and Boat Party happening Sunday, June 7, 12:30-4:00pm. We’ll have a free cookout, volleyball, tubing, and lawn games at Victory Lake. Invite a friend, and sign up online!
